And Today We March

One of the best aspects of attending COP has been the opportunity to hear ALL the various ideas and/or theories about what Climate Change really means and how we will put a stop to this crisis. But the idea the resonates with me the most is that change must start with the people.

march_photo1Today was Human Rights Day, and I had the chance to participate in the People’s Climate March in Defense of Mother Earth or Pacha Mamma. Human rights and climate change go hand in hand and I believe until we can realize that poverty, disease, and war are a direct result of Climate Change, we will not be able to make a difference.

So today I marched alongside our rainforest communities for the rights of indigenous peoples in the Amazon and others affected by climate change, and I couldn’t help but get a little teary eyed.

The two beautiful women in the photos are Norma (drumming) and Lucia (dancing). They are part of our team on the ground doing some amazing work. They are truly part of the forest and I can only hope to live more like them.

Today I celebrate them too, and all the work they do for Rainforest Partnership and the Pacha Mamma.Plus they are just some really cool ladies….
