Adventure Awaits

“The silence was enchanting. Infinite space seemed to enter it, and my spirit, alone with the stars, seemed capable of any adventure.” -excerpt from The Summing Up by W. Somerset Maugham

Tomorrow my adventure will shift to what some may believe is a more ‘proper’ adventure, and I say good bye to my days at the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP 20). And if you don’t believe meetings, sessions, and lectures can be an adventure then you have never attended a UN Conference in another country. It is hard to describe or sum up this part of my story, but in a few words I have been inspired and a new passion has been ignited in me to learn and do more.

The experience here has been like nothing I imagined. I could sit in the courtyard and eat lunch and hear at least 4 different languages, all around the issue of what we can do to halt this Climate Crisis. It took me a while to get the hang of everything but after about 4 days I can’t imagine going back. People care, they really do care, and sometimes I forget because this topic is not cool, or sexy or even widely accepted as fact.

And if I may step onto my soap box for a moment- Climate Change is real, there is too much science to back it up, humanity is affected on a daily basis, famine, war, disease are all a result of an earth that is sick. With that beings said, please expect me to step on to that soap box more in 2015, and I hope that you will join me in not only consciously thinking about what you are doing but also asking corporations and governments what they are doing to help us change the world, and stop this climate crisis.

So I leave you with two pictures. The first that grassy knoll I spoke of where these lectures, lessons, and exhibitions are being discussed in general conversation. And the second is of one of the lectures, that just reminds me of something out of the movies, with the large screens and headsets (for translations) and all of the heads of states with their name plates, just insane!

As always please excuse typos, grammatical errors, and just plane nonsense… the struggle is real and sleep is not an option.
